In the ART OF BOTANICAL PERFUME two day workshop we explore how this ancient craft holds the seeds of Alchemy, Herbalism, Aromatherapy and the Arts—while still serving the Earth and positively affecting change in the human being.

We experience and use materials from the palette of an authentic botanical perfumer, all plant based, while delving into modalities of blending with a focus on artistic impressions and expression. Each student will leave the class with a deeper awareness of scent, understand the key components to building a fragrance and their very own custom perfume in a liquid format.

Seven sections covered:

1. What is Perfume?
2. History of Perfume
3. Tools & Raw Materials
4. Fragrance Families & Types
5. Olfactory Awareness
6. Artistry
7. Orchestration

DAY ONE: The workshop begins with setting up the heart and mind space using a guided meditation to connect with your most creative, unique self. Once the terrain has been set, there will be an introduction to perfume and its rich history while we explore olfactory awareness with our palette of essential oils, c02 extracts and absolutes.

DAY TWO: On day two we continue to explore olfactory awareness interspersed with learning about fragrance families & types, and artistry. We then begin to orchestrate our nine note perfume. The workshop will conclude with a secondary guided meditation to set the intention for your fragrance.

DATES: November 16th & 17th, 2023 (Thursday and Friday)

TIME: 10am – 5pm. We begin promptly and will have approximately an hour lunch break where students can grab a bite.

INGREDIENTS: Illuminated Perfume prides itself on being a pioneer in the natural perfume industry since the 90's, officially launching the brand in 2007 at the Ojai Lavender Festival. Our brand and teaching palette uses essential oils, c02 extracts, absolutes and concretes. No isolates, nature identicals or animal ingredients are utilized.

Bring an open heart & mind. All supplies, tools and a notebook will be provided

Arrive unscented. Be mindful of laundry, cosmetic and bath & beauty products on this special day. We need to keep our palettes clear and free of odorants. It's crucial that you arrive scent free.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If you are unable to attend a class or workshop we offer live and online workshop credits. For example, if you signed up for a perfume class, then you may apply the credit to a future perfume live or online class. We appreciate your understanding.

Art of Botanical Perfume 2 day workshop

This session was absolutely amazing. As a novice to perfumery I walked away with layers and layers of knowledge about the art and craft of creating fine perfume. I HIGHLY recommend this workshop for anyone wanting an authentic experience with a master perfumer who teaches in a gentle yet firm manner as she imparts her knowledge and know how to go and create endless varieties of amazing perfumes. This was a fantastic and yet practical experience that opens up a whole world of perfume.

Amazing introduction to natural perfumes

This was a beautiful class, right from the moment I arrived at the goregous studio in Santa Fe till the time I walked out with my very own handcrafted perfume. It was a grounded, sensory awakening at her class and with my co-learners in creating perfumes- your way. It doesn't matter if you are getting newly acquainted to the craft or if you are a seasoned perfumer- there is much to learn for everyone. Take the class and be amazed. Transformational experience

If you only start to explore the natural perfumery world or have done t for some time and need inspirational guidance, Roxana's workshop is the right place to be. I appreciate a thoughtful introduction into the history, creative space (aka lab) tour, shared experience of smelling and olfactory practice. I learn how to do a solid perfume and for the first time in two years of experimenting created a scent that I'm truly proud and happy with.

Intoxicating and informative

Across two days, Roxana led us through a thoughtfully designed workshop with an emphasis on developing our own unique relationship to, and perspective on, scent and perfume. This workshop is for anyone who is looking for a way into perfume making that emphasizes one’s own individual taste over “the right way” while still learning the systems and structures that can support successful formulations.
